Although The Stick of Truth tries to capture the nostalgia of pre-millennium RPG's, it also retains many of the modern expectations of the genre, as well. Allowing the player to participate in character design is an example of TSoT competing with contemporary RPG's... while simultaneously poking fun at them.

The character design options include:
skin tone, hair style, outfit, makeup, & eye-wear.
